Preservatives in baby wipes: why and how | MyRoyalKids
A product that consists largely of water needs protection against the growth of bacteria, yeasts and moulds. Especially a pack that you open dozens of times. That is why MyRoyalWipes from MyRoyalKids contains a carefully chosen preservative system, based on sodium benzoate.
What preservation does
The preservative system keeps the lotion in the pack fresh, from the first wipe to the last. It prevents microorganisms that enter when the pack is opened from multiplying. Always close the pack properly after use. Once opened, a pack stays good for one month. Unopened, it has a shelf life of three years.
Sodium benzoate: familiar from the kitchen
Sodium benzoate is probably already familiar to you. As E211, it has been used in food and soft drinks for decades to keep them fresh. In My Royal Wipes, it does exactly the same for the lotion.
The EU strictly regulates how much sodium benzoate cosmetics may contain. For products that remain on the skin, the maximum is 0.5%. In addition, a qualified safety assessor has assessed the complete My Royal Wipes formula and found it safe for daily use from birth.
A smart team of three
Sodium benzoate works best with gluconolactone. In water, this slowly turns into a mild acid that supports preservation, while also helping the skin retain moisture. Calcium gluconate keeps the whole formula stable. Three ingredients, one well-designed system.
A conscious choice
We choose a preservative system that we openly list on the label and that you recognise. That fits the way MyRoyalKids, formerly MyRoyalBaby, works: a short list, with a clear reason for every ingredient.
